Breast Cancer Survivor, and founder
of Tar Heal Strong.
I was diagnosed with stage 2B, HER2-positive breast cancer at age 33, with no family history. I was too young for a Mammogram! My diagnosis came as a complete shock to everyone—including the doctors. I was a true medical anomaly as I tested negative for the BRCA genetic mutation. I was a healthy young mother of two—my children were just four months old and almost three—when I discovered a lump. Breast cancer wasn’t on my radar at all, so much so that I dismissed it for months before finally seeing a doctor.
That one appointment changed my life. Within four weeks, I underwent a surgical biopsy, sentinel node biopsy, and a bilateral mastectomy with the first stage of reconstruction; a 9.5-hour surgery. One month later, I began an aggressive treatment plan that included six months of chemotherapy, six weeks of daily radiation, followed by a year of adjuvant therapy, and eventually final reconstructive surgery. It was overwhelming, and one of the hardest journeys of my life.
Through it all, I relied on faith and the strength God provided me to navigate each challenge. That support gave me hope, courage, and resilience when I needed it most—and it continues to guide me today.
Hi, I’m Domenica Luttrell
When life hits us the hardest, we often discover our greatest strength. My breast cancer journey taught me resilience, courage, and perspective—and I’ve chosen to use that experience for good. I created Tar Heal Strong to help other patients and survivors find strength, hope, and confidence in their own recovery.
I understand firsthand the physical and emotional toll of a cancer diagnosis, the lasting effects of treatment, and the challenges of finding a “new normal.” That’s why my mission is to guide others with compassion, empathy, and encouragement—drawing not only from my training, but also from my lived experience as a survivor and the faith that carried me through.
Through safe movement, mindful practices, and sustainable lifestyle strategies, I meet each person where they are—whether in treatment, recovery, or simply striving to rebuild health and confidence. My goal is to walk alongside you, support you, and remind you that you are stronger than you realize.
